The Feast Begins

I'll start with a confession--I've never read through the entire Bible. I have read most of it, and have scanned the vast majority of books, but I haven't managed a full reading. I'm a bit embarrassed to write this, because, as a pastor, I should have. It's assumed among circles of pastors that everyone has, though I highly doubt I'm along in this confession.

So, why now? It has been a very challenging few months, and the pain of this world seem all to real. I have deep questions about God, where He is in the midst of the suffering around us. Where is God in this suffering? Is He watching the world's pain? I want to feast on the WORD of God, to inwardly digest it. To live and breath it even when I don't understand it. I pray that God's WORD will surround my soul so no doubt can penetrate. God has given us the story of us, His people, so we may know we are not alone. Communion is the way God's people (the body of Christ) can receive the BODY of Christ. My prayer is that I will find connection and comfort from both the BODY of Christ and the body of Christ. So, I lean into my faith, knowing it is the only help we have. I will feast on the WORD as never before, praying for guidance and answers.

Why share this with you? I believe I am not alone with these questions. Perhaps, we as the body of Christ will find comfort from one another. I also ask for prayers and strength. By posting and sharing, I hold myself accountable, that I continue this journey even on days that I struggle.

How one (or, at least I) read the Bible in a month and commune daily: Jeff and I added up the number of chapters in the Old and New Testaments. We get a total of 1189 chapters, or, about 40 chapters a day. That's 31-32 Old Testament and 8-9 New Testament per day. As for Communion, my only "criteria" is that I commune with at least one other person--I'm excited to discover how the Spirit will move me to ask people to join me in this feast, and what the Spirit will do in these times.

Thank you for joining me in this feast, and perhaps feasting with me. I begin today with Isaiah 1-32 and Matthew 1-9.

  1. Go Tracy! Please know I support you in this "Feast" and Journey. I am proud of you everyday. My prayers are that you will have many rousing conversations with God, discover more about you and your brothers and sisters. And that the hurt you carry heals, I pray for you and your fellow Luther graduates. You can do this. You will be challenged by this Feast. And you will grow and learn more than you can even imagine. I love you my sister in Christ! Agape forever and always!!! Your friend and sister, Suzzy :)

  3. You are so ambitious!! I would join you, but am already teaching my own Bible Study that covers the entire bible in less than a year, so I think I'll stick to that schedule - but I'm proud of you for taking this on!!! :-)
